Celebrating Christmas

Since Mike and I have started having kids, my goal has been to have Christmas at home. I try to avoid any traveling of any kind on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Thankfully my family has been very accommodating for me and we have worked out a good system.
So this year we spent Christmas Eve just a couple miles from home, at the Grandparent's house. We had a wonderful time of good food, fabulous presents and lots of great fellowship.

Of course it wouldn't be a Wolfe gathering without some sort of excitement. This year, our 88 year old adopted Gma Dorothy tripped on the last two steps going down into the basement. I saw the whole thing, folks. It's permanently burnt onto my retina's.

She's so spry and DIDN'T break the hip that she landed on. Unfortunately her ankle took the brunt of the trauma. It was broken in two places and severely dislocated. I guess a person is going to break something, though, our gathering is the place to do it. We do sport a nurse and a fireman, both who've been trained in exactly this sort of thing.

If anything, they had the presence of mine to call 911 (didn't even occur to me). We all, selfishly, wanted to keep Dorothy while we opened all the presents. But cooler heads prevailed and the ambulance whisked her away to the hospital. After a steel plate and a couple screws. She's on the road to healing in only the way that our spry Dorothy can do. Again, if you'd like a blow by blow. Just ask me, 4 days later it is STILL emblazoned in my minds eye.

Here's a picture from the beginning of the night. This is the Minnesota grandkids/ cousins. We're missing our Gems. We should've made little popsicle masks of their faces and strategicly placed them about. Oh well, good idea for next time. :)
